PPC Management and the 90/10 Rule
Something that is very important to know about PPC management (Pay-per-click Management) is that pay-per-click advertising, in general, is very much governed by the 90/10 rule or maybe even the 93/7 rule. What this means is that, out of all the keyword phrases you may think you want to include in your PPC advertising campaign, only a very small percentage are going to be what we’ll call “money” keyword phrases. The higher percentage are going to be keyword phrases that will cost you money and get clicks but will rarely generate you any leads or sales. On that rare occasion when you do get a lead or sale from one of these low converting keyword phrases (if you ever do), the leads or sales you get will have a disproportionately high acquisition cost.
How can this be dealt with? What PPC professionals often do when they first structure a pay-per-click advertising campaign is use “exact” and “phrase” match versions of keyword phrases. They will also often always choose keyword phrases that contain three words or more, because longer keyword phrases tend to indicate a more serious searcher.
